Will you marry me ... Fifi?

Tuesday, April 07, 2009

Did your eyes meet across a crowded a pet shop, or down a dingy alley? Does he delight you daily, or do you long to return him to the shelter? Perhaps you prefer your best friend's pet?

At a July 2005 wedding in Wanganui, New Zealand, the groom Glen Armitage designated his dog as best man (aren't dogs our best friend?) but you can go one stage further and marry your pet. UK-based company "Marry Your Pet"  lets you literally marry your pet. , you can choose the 'simple wedding' for US $10 or the 'big wedding' for US $85 which comes with a T-shirt. In addition, the website carries a disclaimer advising, inter alia, that "by marrying your pet he/she may be entitled to half your house and all your income", so you have being warned!

Dogs are social-networking too

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

by Jane Poriccelli

Make no mistake about it - social networking is going to the dogs. There are sites like Dogster and PetPop, which allow you to create profiles for your dogs and meet other dogs online. There's a Dogbook application that lets you connect with other dog owners and their pups right on Facebook. People magazine has even gotten in on the action with an online community called PeoplePets.

But there's also a new trend among social media-savvy pets. Many are joining Twitter to stay connected to their pals. Of course, whether or not these pets are actually setting the accounts up themselves - or their owners are - is up for discussion.

(Scratching your belly - er, head? Twitter is a social networking service that allows users to instantly message each other through updates, called "tweets", of up to 140 characters in length. Users can then easily stay connected to their network of friends, which consists of people whose updates they choose to follow.) Full article...

Best Friend NYC has joined the digital revolution too simply by writing this blog and creating an online portal for dog lovers.  We also recently joined Facebook and now can keep all of you fans updated with latest news, photos, and special promotions. Join us now ...

New online whole-pet resource launches

Wednesday, August 06, 2008

From WSJ MarketWatch

Search "pet health" on the Internet and more than 16 million sites and references pop up. With so much online clutter, it's no wonder a recent survey found three out of four pet owners would find a singular site for pet health and wellness information valuable. A new online platform that redefines how pet owners approach pet care launches today with WebVet , the first whole-pet resource that brings together, in one trusted place, veterinarian-approved pet health and wellness information, as well as lifestyle trends and pet-centric news from leading animal health experts and award-winning reporters.

"Because WebVet offers one trusted and reliable place for pet owners to gather information about health care for pets, it is a tremendous asset to both consumers and veterinarians," said Georgette Wilson, DVM, manager, Veterinary Operations for Pfizer Animal Health. "A well-informed pet owner can be very helpful to veterinarians when making decisions regarding the best course of action for their pets' health." Full story...
